The Books Not Read

I went through my collection and pulled out all the unread books that I consider “mine”, so none of the Philipp Roth, the Kafka, nor most of the memoirs and narrative non-fiction. From those books, I discarded the books that I have absolutely zero interest in ever reading. Look for them soon in my Little Free Library.

Let me know if you think I’ve made a dreadful mistake. If you convince me, I may reclaim it and put it back in the Yes pile.

Not Gonna Happen:

  • Flight -Sherman Alexie (Chose to keep and read a different Alexie)
  • my grandmother asked me to tell you she’s sorry -Fredrik Backman (I loved A Man Called Ove. This is probably a perfectly good book.)
  • Among Friends -MFK Fisher (Not sure where this came from. Maybe was once my mom’s? Might keep this one around is it has an attractive spine)
  • All Quiet on the Western Front -Erich Maria Remarque (Maybe I read this for school once, but also I’ve seen two movie versions so I don’t think I need to read it again)
  • Nisei Daughter -Monica Sone (Really on the fence about this one)
  • Joe Turner’s Come and Gone -August Wilson (One of my kid’s high school readers. So short I could read it fairly quickly, but I have to say No to something)
  • I’m Down -Mishna Wolff (recommended and loaned by my friend M. I feel so guilty that I never read this, but I don’t think I can take another memoir maybe ever.)

Read but kicking off the shelf:

  • Wuthering Heights -Emily Bronte (Duplicate copy of a book I didn’t even like)
  • A Widow for One Year -John Irving (My least favorite Irving. What happened to my copy of Owen Meany?)

Started but never finished:

  • The Living -Annie Dillard (Spoiler: Everyone dies!)
  • The Maytrees -Annie Dillard (Sorry S, I just couldn’t get into it. You read such bleak books!)
  • We Were The Mulvaneys -Joyce Carol Oates (Where did this even come from?)
